The company has been looking for a replacement since June this year, when Mathieu left the company to join Samsung.
Santos has been with Unilever for 25 years and was previously global senior vice president of laundry. She was part of the Dove global brand team in 2002 when the Dove Beauty Theory was created, and more recently oversaw the ‘Dirt is Good’ campaign for Persil, OMO and Surf.
In her new role she will continue Mathieu’s focus on leading innovation by working with start-ups, as well as wider initiatives to promote the Unilever brand and its sustainability agenda.
Unilever says: “Aline is one of Unilever’s most talented marketers and, through her 25 years at the company, has played a key role in the development of some of our leading brands.
“Aline will lead the creative development of the global brands portfolio, the global marketing innovation process, the marketing capabilities team, the Unilever brand and continue the work in scaling up start-ups through The Unilever Foundry.”
Mathieu is now CMO at Samsung USA where he oversees marketing for its businesses including home appliances, home entertainment and telecomms, as well as its global marketing center of excellence which incubates marketing innovation. He previously worked at Coca-Cola.
